Last Call

America!  No more Thad McCotter, Guitar Hero to kick around anymore as he's resigned from Congress.  I'm sure you're all heartbroken, too.  If only you could remember who this knucklehead was.

After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family. As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave.

The recent event's totality of calumnies, indignities and deceits have weighed most heavily upon my family. Thus, acutely aware one cannot rebuild their hearth of home amongst the ruins of their U.S. House office, for the sake of my loved ones I must "strike another match, go start anew" by embracing the promotion back from public servant to sovereign citizen.

I do not leave for an existing job and face diminishing prospects (and am both unwilling and ill-suited to lobby), my priorities are twofold: find gainful employment to help provide for my family; and continue to assist, in any way they see fit, the Michigan Attorney General's earnest and thorough investigation, which I requested, into the 2012 petition filing.

By the way, the whole "sovereign citizen" movement he references transitioning into?  A bunch of dangerous anarchist militia/white supremacist nutjobs, meaning that McCotter should have resigned over the comment anyway, he's either too ignorant of the very real danger that the movement possesses...

...or he's completely cognizant.   Then again, I vote for ignorance, since this moron couldn't even figure out how to get himself on his own primary ballot and lost.

And thus with a grand total of 3 posts, I retire his tag,  Bye, Thad.

You know, unless he does something even more stupid.

Last Call

It seems our old friend GOP Rep. (and Presidential candidate mega-failure) Thad "Guitar Hero" McCotter of Michigan may have just even more epically failed himself right out of Congress.

Throwing his congressional race into turmoil, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter said Friday evening that he may not have turned in enough valid signatures to qualify for the Aug. 7 Republican primary in his suburban Detroit district.

In a statement, McCotter said the Michigan Secretary of State's Office notified him about the apparent problem.

"Fully respecting the accuracy and integrity of the Secretary of State's Office, we will thoroughly review our petition signatures for their sufficiency or insufficiency," the Livonia Republican said in his statement. "Out of respect for Memorial Day, an announcement of our findings will be made public on Tuesday."

According to the Secretary of State's website, McCotter had turned in 2,000 signatures, the maximum allowable. Congressional candidates must turn in at least 1,000 and no more than 2,000 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.

The Secretary of State didn't say how many signatures McCotter could be short by, but spokeswoman Gisgie Gendreau said Friday night that duplicate signatures were among the problems with McCotter's petitions. When duplicates are found, both signatures are bounced from the petitions.

"He can make his case to the Board of Canvassers," Gendreau said. "They still have to vote to certify the signatures."

The board is expected to meet the first week of June, though a firm date hasn't been set.

Yeah, whoever's running McCotter's campaign?  You're an idiot.  Also, thanks for keeping this meathead off the the ballot, possibly.   Let's remember McCotter's platform as a GOP hopeful:

He lives in Livonia, Mich., and he represents a suburban district outside Detroit. His seat on the House Financial Services Committee is credited for helping restructure General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group, rescuing both companies from bankruptcy through government loans.

“If you believe American needs manufacturing and farming, that is going to be a message you will hear,” he told the Detroit News Friday.

McCotter says he supported the federal government’s hand in helping both companies recover and adds that their restructuring can be used as an example of what can be done to Social Security and the banking system.

“If you continue to raise taxes, if you continue to massively increase government, you are crushing the chances of a recovery.... The White House should finally get the message that we are not going to make this recession worse, we’re not going to make it harder for people to recover, we want to fix and restructure government starting with the debt ceiling,” he told Huckabee on his show last weekend.

GM bailout good, bank bailout bad.  Also spending bad.  Also taxes bad...but not if bailouts, taxes, and government spending are used to SAVE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF JOBS IN HIS DISTRICT.   No wonder he didn't last more than a month.

Not sad at all to see this particular hypocrite lose his seat for not following the damn rules.

Thaddeus McWho?

Michigan GOP Rep. Thad McCotter is running for President.  It's okay if you haven't heard of him, nobody has.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter will announce he will run for president Saturday, three people briefed on the matter said today.

A campaign official said McCotter will file his presidential election papers withthe Federal Election Campaignon Friday, and he is suspending his House fund and rolling it into a presidential campaign fund.

His website — www.McCotter2012.com — will go live around noon tomorrow, and he has secured office space in western Wayne County for his campaign. McCotter has hired a former speaker of the Iowa House, Chris Rants, as a campaign adviser and is workingtohire advisers inNew Hampshire.

The Livonia Republican, who is in his fifth term in Congress, has been considering the move for weeks and spent four days in Iowa meeting with potential voters. Iowa holds a Feb. 6 caucus — the first votes cast in the nation in the presidential race.

McCotter, who recently traveled to New Hampshire, which holds the first presidential primary, plans another trip July 9-10 to the Granite State and plans to unveil Social Security reform legislation next month as well as he mounts a long-shot campaign.

McCotter began telling advisers Tuesday night he had decided to run. He plans to travel to Iowa and is planning fundraising efforts in New York and California in August.

"He's in it to win it," a campaign adviser said.

The 2012 Clown Car is a TARDIS, I swear.  Also, there's this:

McCotter said the revolution in communication and media has made it easier for aspiring politicians who don’t have the sort of name identification or personal wealth that traditionally determined who could mount a national campaign.

“It’s easier to get your message out today, and people will take a look at it — and if they like it, maybe they vote for you,” he said.

Pressed further, the Michigander quipped: “I’m from Detroit — we live to prove the doubters wrong.”

First question he gets on the auto bailout where his answer is anything but "Socialist Obama took over the auto industry and now it's failed!" his campaign ends.

New tag:  Thad "Guitar Hero" McCotter.
