Playing The Paranoia Angle, Part 12

I'd say Sharron Angle strayed perilously close to EPIC FAIL territory, but she crossed that border with this rant on...crossing borders.  Angle has taken a lot of grief for her anti-Latino ads in Nevada, but she refuses to even own up to her own campaign spots when trying to convince Latinos to vote for her.

But during an appearance before a group of Hispanic children at Rancho High School in Nevada, Angle implausibly claimed she had no idea that the people in the ad were meant to be Hispanic, and claimed the ad was about the "northern border." From Las Vegas Sun reporter Jon Ralston:
Question: Why is it that in all of your commercials you have the image of Latinos? What do you see when you hear, and I quote, "illegal aliens?"
Angle: I think that you're misinterpreting those commercials. I'm not sure that those are Latinos in that commercial. What it is, is a fence and there are people coming across that fence. What we know is that our northern border is where the terrorists came through. That's the most porous border that we have. We cannot allow terrorists; we cannot allow anyone to come across our border if we don't know why they're coming. So we have to secure all of our borders and that's what that was about, is border security. Not just our southern border, but our coastal border and our northern border.
This is an example of how racism in politics works these days -- when a political candidate wants to exploit racial animus, all he or she has to do is leave themselves some semblance of plausible deniability. The problem is, Angle didn't leave herself any. When confronted by a high school student about her inaccurate, race-baiting ads demonizing Latinos, Angle dissembled and suggested she's actually concerned about a massive influx of Canadians. Then after demonizing Latinos, she has the chutzpah to ask for their votes.

Yeah.  She's worried about Canadians.  It's bad enough if you're going to demonize Latinos, but to then try to win the Latino vote by saying all those "scary immigrant ads" are really about Canada is just horrendous buckets of EPIC FAIL.

How stupid does Sharron Angle believe Nevada's Latino community -- or for that matter, all of America -- is, anyway?  Vote for Republicans.  They think you're morons.

[UPDATEGreg Sargent puts an end to all this "I was referring to our northern border" crap.

But here's what's funny about this: Angle's campaign makes direct references to Mexico in a previous ad and in a previous campaign mailer which both blast Reid on immigration in precisely the same terms the new ad does.

Game, set, match.

  1. I didn't know that illegal, as in illegal aliens, was a race, as liberals would define race. What language do illegals speak? What is their culture?

Or is it perhaps that illegal aliens are people who are not in this country legally, regardless of the language they speak or the culture they're from, no?

So it looks like that Ralston, and everyone else who has demonized those of us who believe we need better border security first, is trying to grotesquely and falsely assert racism where none exists.

But I have a question. The reporter who questioned Angle about her ads. Does the reporter believe that all Latinos are illegal aliens? Maybe the reporter is the one with the problem of racism; isn't that a possibility?

  2. Pay attention, man. Ralston said this:

Why is it that in all of your commercials you have the image of Latinos? What do you see when you hear, and I quote, "illegal aliens?"

He asked that of Sharon Angle. He's not the one equating all Latinos to "illegal aliens". Sharron Angle is the one putting images of Latinos in her ads when she talks about "illegal aliens". Is she doing that on purpose?

And she comes up with this crap about Canada when asked about it. Right.

    That's pretty damn sad.

  3. There's two recent ads (here and here) on Angle's site that are about illegal aliens. The faces of the illegals are obscured by the lighting and the camera work, so there really is no way to know whether the people or Latinos or not. But Ralston is the one who is assuming all the illegal aliens in those ads are Latinos; he's the one seeing them that way. Why do you think he would do that? Or like I said, maybe Ralston is trying to imply a hideous claim of racism by Angle that just doesn't exist. Or is that possibility just not something you would entertain at all because what Ralston is saying fits your preconceived and evidence-free negative belief of Angle's position of illegal aliens?

  4. We couldn't see their faces, so Ralston's the racist. They could have been Canadians!

That has got to be the biggest pile of crap I've read in a long time.

    Nobody's buying that.

  5. Excuse me, but he's the one inferring they are Latinos, not Angle's ad. For the record, I don't consider Ralston a racist. I consider him to be a dishonest Democratic hack masquerading as a journalist. But I would say by the so-called standards you liberals use would indicate Ralston is a racist.

That's the biggest pile of crap you've ever heard? No, the biggest pile of crap is the assertion, by liberals, of rampant Tea Party racism. That's a serious charge, but you all fling it around like poo to the point where it can be easily refuted, as in this case. What Ralston and you call "evidence" that "proves" Angle's "racism" wouldn't be considered real evidence by anyone but someone who is just as full of hate as Ralston is.

By the way, I saw your update with Greg Sargent's pathetic post. Ooh, Sharron Angle put out an ad with Felipe Calderon's picture on it. That must mean she's a racist. Never mind that the ad is a statement of fact. You do know that Calderon is the leader of one of several countries assisting in the DoJ's ridiculous lawsuit, don't you? So does that mean that Calderon can't even be uttered by Angle, or she's a racist? And the mailer? Puh-lease. Every Democrat in Congress gave Calderon a standing ovation after the stupid speech by Calderon, the guy helping the DoJ to sue Arizona. Based on that, there was nothing wrong, racist, or misleading with either the ad or the mailer.

    You people are pathetic.

  6. So...you don't actually have an argument then. Fair enough.

Sharron Angle was the one who referred to Mexico before specifically in her anti-immigration attacks on Harry Reid.

Now we're supposed to believe she really meant Canada.

Considering the hoops you're going through to try to justify this, you just look foolish.

    Thread over.
