RE: the West Virginia coal mining disaster.
I am a granddaughter and niece of coal miners. My grandfather and one of my uncles died with black lung. One of my other uncles is a mine representative who worked his way out of the ground and now travels as a supervisor for a mining company who competes with Massey. He has plenty of horror stories about how Massey does business.
Many members of my family still live in that area. I've driven past Montcoal hundreds of times and I know that the community is suffering right now. When coal mining is the only job in town, you have to either move away or suck it up and go to the mines. It's a shame that the company has so little regard for the safety and well-being of employees who literally risk life and limb for their bottom line.
