StupidiNews: Bon Is Worried

Straight from the headlines and into my list of things to stew on at night when I can't sleep.

(CNN) -- A large number of dead birds were found in the city of Falköping, Sweden, on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to the Swedish National Veterinary Institute.
That has me worried.  That some are trying to dismiss this as firework trauma or similar has me even more worried.

(CNN) -- Authorities in Maryland are investigating the deaths of about 2 million fish in Chesapeake Bay.
Okay, something is going on here.  This is more than a weird coincidence.  Right now, we don't even know if it is natural or done by man.  Fish and birds are related in the food chain, but right now we don't even know if the food chain is related to this.

(AP) LONDON – The first study to link a childhood vaccine to autism was based on doctored information about the children involved, according to a new report on the widely discredited research.

This will impact the globe if these diseases are ever introduced into the population, starting with us.  Concerned parents took steps to protect their children, but it has put a community of children at risk of exposure.  The article says immunization rates have never recovered.  The study itself was called "an elaborate fraud" by colleagues.

And you know that the "MMR causes Autism" is going to be a zombie conspiracy theory until the end of days... the audience for that sort of thing is immune to facts.

I'm much more annoyed with the number of wingers who look at this autism farce and say with a straight face "Well this proved all scientists are liars, just like those global warming fruitcakes. But where is Obama's birth certificate, anyway?"

FTA:

The conclusions of the 1998 paper by Andrew Wakefield and colleagues was renounced by 10 of its 13 authors and later retracted by the medical journal Lancet, where it was published.

I believe this the same Lancet who claimed, now debunked, the U.S. killed more than a half million Iraqis between 2003 and 2007, which is still used today by a large number of America-hating leftists. Lancet seems to have a lousy track record in recent years.

I'm much more annoyed with the number of wingers who look at this autism farce and say with a straight face "Well this proved all scientists are liars, just like those global warming fruitcakes.

Not all scientists. Just lefty scientists and liberal hacks like Al Gore and Babs Boxer who still adhere to the standards set by this guy.

It's not like scientists have too much credibility right now.

You can relate, Zandar.

Scientists don't have credibility?

Up yours.

I know several scientists and to my mind, they're one of the last bastions of honesty in this damaged society. There's a lot they don't know, and they'll admit it if they don't, which is hard for anyone to do. And there's some assholes here and there, but it's like they're human or something.

What have you done to contribute to the sum of human knowledge? Hm? You do research? You crunch the numbers? You got a degree in science? Have you even talked with a scientist in these fields? It's not like they're inaccessible or anything; the astrophysics lab at my college kept letters of any number of cranks trying to sell them a pet theory, which made for fun reading. I'm sure they'd read your e-mails on how the world really works with some amusement.
